The library has a large collection of serials. Currently there are more than 20,000 catalogue titles of periodicals, including over 5000 active. The increase is mainly due to procurement policy (46%), the legal deposit (34%), to the gift/exchange (18%), periodicals from the Publications Office of the European Union through the CDE (2%).
In order to rationalize the process of acquisition of serials, databases and bibliographic material for the benefit of all staff CNR, has been centralized contracts with leading international publishers. Over 32,000 electronic resources are available to the scientific community.
The collection of periodicals includes:
- periodicals on paper (over 16,000 titles between Italian and foreign publications, both current and ended, and European Union publications);
- 200 periodical titles on CD/DVD;
- online journals (over 4,000 titles between Italian and foreign publications, both current and ended, and European Union publications).
Subject entries, covered by these titles, embrace especially science, although they are represented in the catalogue socio-humanistic disciplines. The heritage of periodicals includes 611 periodic heads belonging to the collection of the library "Pallottino".
The library has reactivated its collaboration with the University of Bologna to national collective catalogue of serials ACNP containing Italian and foreign journals, paper and electronic, held by Italian libraries belonging to ACNP.
The library participates in the ACNP in order to enhance the worldwide scientific publications by providing its own cataloguing heritage and ensuring the service of document delivery.
