Mission or purpose of the Library
The Library connotes its Mission and its function defining the supporting factors expressed in the following purposes:
- to preserve, promote and disseminate the scientific production and national and international technique, playing a role of selective preservation (Library Regulation, Art. 23. Selection of coming publications ) also in accordance with the provisions of current legislation on Legal Deposit (Library Regulation , Art. 2. Constitution of the bibliographic heritage of CNR);
- participate in the creation of the Italian archive of the editorial scientific production in implementation, scope of its competence, the more general wording in "Urgent measures for the protection, restoration and valorization of the Italian cultural heritage" (Law 7th October 2013, n. 112, Article 4, paragraph 3);
- to promote the knowledge of the scientific-technological culture through the acquisition of the latest editorial production, because of the specific features of the collections, making available the documentary heritage to the academic and research world;
- to promote the coordination of activities and services of the library system of the CNR (Library Regulation, Art. 3. Relations between the central library and decentralized CNR libraries);
- to promote a development policy coordinated with universities and other institutions, through contacts and agreements, promoting participation in programs, projects and initiatives within national and international bibliographic services (Library Regulation, Art. 4. Relations between the central library of the CNR and external institutions);
- to encourage the development of strategies, tools and services for open access to the research products financed by public funds.
