The documentary heritage of the Library is in constant growth, resulting from the Legal Deposit, by purchases of foreign publications, publications by CNR and by donations from organizations and individuals. Following enlargement also of the humanities, including socio-economic, historical, legal and artistic material published with support of the CNR, it is highlighted as the complexity of the connections between disciplines connected to each other with the consequent difficulties in defining the boundaries materials of interest. The growth of the library's holdings is part of a framework which includes the features of the structure, its previous collections, its purposes, elements, these, to evaluate and report to the planning of all activities.
The Charter of the Collections is the document that guides the updating, management and development of the collections, on any media, in keeping with the mission of the library, setting the criteria for selection of documents and other information sources, identifying gaps to be filled and sectors to improve, and defining the general principles guiding the Library in the activity of revision of the collections. The Charter helps to reconsider the goals of the organization, to track targets both long and short term, to set priorities to be assigned to the various activities; is a support to the management of the offices, and creates a communication channel both internal and external in favor of a conscious use by users.
